How do I work?

What’s working?
What isn’t?
What are you constantly adapting, putting up with or working around?
What do you need your home to do for you now; and what would make everyday life feel a little easier, calmer or more enjoyable?
Because the best design decisions aren’t made in isolation.
They come from understanding the people, the space and everything that happens in between.
I’m interested in the bits you’ve probably stopped noticing.
The awkward route through the room.
The chair nobody sits in.
The cupboard that is technically full of storage but somehow stores nothing useful.
The beautiful room that never quite gets used.
The things you’ve been meaning to change for years.
These are the clues.
I look at how your space is laid out, how light moves through it, how you use it, what you need from it and where the friction is.
Then I bring all of that together to work out what your space actually needs.
Sometimes that means a few carefully chosen changes.
Sometimes it means rethinking a room completely.
And sometimes the answer is something you simply hadn’t considered because you were too close to it.
You know when a room just doesn’t feel right?
You might not be able to explain exactly why.
Perhaps the furniture never quite seems to sit where it should. You’re constantly moving things around. There’s a room you avoid using. Storage is overflowing, the lighting isn’t helping, or the way your family uses the space has simply changed.
And sometimes it’s not even that obvious.
Your home might look perfectly lovely. It just doesn’t feel like your life anymore.
That’s usually where I come in.
I’m Katherine, and I believe good interior design starts with questions.
Not… What colour do you like?
Not…. What’s trending?
And not… How can we make this room look more expensive?
Instead, I want to understand how you actually live.
How the process begins
Before we even start to look at the solution, we need to investigate the problem and what is driving you towards changing your home.
Our journey begins with a meeting, in person if possible, and a walk through the areas you are struggling with, a chat about the pain points and difficult spaces and a wish list of your desired outcomes. A Design Diagnostic session, if you like.
The results are delivered by way of a Space Analysis Report that leads us to the next steps - and the decision whether to complete the project yourself, or whether you want full project support and a Signature Renovation Service
This process is all geared towards us finding the best solution for you and your home, whether that be a small renovation and re-purposing of your spaces, or a full re-design and renovation works.

Because a home isn't a hotel, showroom or mood board.
It’s where your actual life happens.
And that’s the bit I really care about.
I want your home to work for the life you’re living now, not the life you had five years ago.
Not the imaginary version of your family that somehow keeps the kitchen immaculate, and not the room that looks beautiful in a photograph but is impossible to actually live in.
Your home should support you, reflect you and make sense for the people who use it.
And yes, I want it to look beautiful too.
Because function and feeling aren’t separate things.

Not sure where to start?
Tell me about the house. And what you're hoping to change.
You might have a whole renovation planned, or you might still be standing in the kitchen wondering whether knocking that wall down would make any difference.
Either way, you don't need to arrive with all the answers.
Tell me about your property, what's frustrating you, what you're excited about changing and how far you've got with your plans.
We can talk about whether a focused Design Diagnostic or a more comprehensive renovation design service would be the right next step.
"I have known Katherine for over ten years, we worked alongside each other at AJI for a number of years. When I first joined AJI, she was an extremely kind and supportive colleague, she has a great sense of humour and is incredibly knowledgeable in her field of work. After a department move at AJI, and at my request Katherine joined me on a freelance basis. I chose Katherine to work on my team due to her diligent work ethic, expansive knowledge and attention to detail. Katherine is an incredibly reliable and talented designer who takes a methodical approach to her work. Since both moving on to different career paths, we still keep in touch and when possible meet up at the London design shows. Katherine has left a long lasting positive impact on me, personally and professionally. I couldn’t recommend her more for any size of design project. "
